City Tax Rates for 2024 (Fiscal Year End June 30, 2025)

Taxes are payable in two installments on Sept. 16 and March 17.

Detailed explanation of your City utility bill

FY26 Water Usage Rate: fixed charge of $173.64 per year plus $0.0300 per cubic foot

FY26 Wastewater Treatment Rate: fixed charge of $166.17 per year plus $0.0155 per cubic foot

FY26 Sanitation Rate: fixed charge of $155.12 per year plus $0.0090 per cubic foot

FY26 Large User Water Rate: $0.167 per 1,000 gallons

FY26 Wastewater Treatment Wholesale Rate: $4.327 per 1,000 gallons

FY26 Stormwater Equivalent Residential Unit Rate $54.32 per year

For example, the cost to the City resident using 120 gallons per day will increase by 19.89% or $134.92 per year. The large user rate is increasing by $0.010 or 8.74%. The wastewater treatment wholesale rate is increasing $0.1562 or 3.74%.

Effective July 1, 2020 a $35 flat fee will be applied to all interim bill requests. This includes interim bill requests for the sale of property or for a change of tenant in rental properties.

Beginning in calendar year 2021, utility charges will be billed three times per year (tri-annually). Each bill will include four months of usage charges and four months of fixed charges.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Stormwater charge will be added to the tri-annual utility bill. More information on the Stormwater Utility can be found at https://www.essexjunction.org/departments/stormwater.
