The City of Essex Junction has contracted with MSK Engineers to complete an inventory of water service lines in the municipal water system. This initiative is in response to the federal drinking water regulations passed by the US EPA in 2021. These new regulations require all water systems in the country to develop an inventory of service line pipe materials for every service line in the system in order to identify water pipes that may contain lead pipes so they can be replaced.

MSK Engineers will be observing the pipe material of service lines throughout the water system by finding where the water line enters the building and recording the pipe material. This project will take place over the next few months, and residents will receive a letter from MSK Engineers when they will be observing waterlines in their neighborhood. The letter will also include instructions on conducting a self-observation, scheduling an observation, and details on the project.

The project is funded by the State of Vermont's Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF). All work on this project is provided at no cost to the residents, and no financial information will be needed.
