In February, the City announced it received a Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Community Formula Grant of $228,856 from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources through the Department of Environmental Conservation's Clean Water Initiative Program. This grant is being used to advance a stormwater infiltration project located to the right of the intersection of West Street and the Hiawatha Elementary School exit driveway. When the project is completed, the stormwater infrastructure will be hidden underground, and the area will once again appear as a field.
While construction is not anticipated for another year or two, field work to aid in the design process has started at the site. This includes surveying, marking of the project boundary for consultants, and a Phase I Archaeological study required by the State of Vermont Division of Historical Preservation.
