The City of Essex Junction and Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) invite residents to attend an upcoming public meeting to review draft alternatives for potential new pedestrian crossing improvements on Pearl Street (VT Route 15).
The project team will present conceptual design options on Thursday, March 12, at 7:00 p.m., during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Bike/Walk Advisory Committee. The meeting will be held in person at 2 Lincoln St, Essex Junction, in the main conference room, with a remote attendance option available via Zoom at: www.essexjunction.org/departments/community-development/pearl-street-pedestrian-crossing. Community members are encouraged to attend in person or online and share feedback on the proposed design concepts and possible crossing locations.
The study area includes Pearl Street (VT Route 15) between Warner Avenue and Weston Way, near the southwestern access driveway to the Champlain Valley Exposition. This section of roadway currently does not have a designed pedestrian crossing and serves bus stops on both sides of the street. The project is evaluating one to two potential crossing locations to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity.
CCRPC is working in partnership with the City and consultant Hoyle, Tanner & Associates, Inc. to conduct an engineering analysis, review traffic and pedestrian data, and develop conceptual alternatives. The draft concepts reflect input gathered through a public survey as well as prior corridor planning efforts.
At the March 12 meeting, the project team will:
- Present up to two conceptual alternatives for an improved pedestrian crossing
- Review preliminary findings from the data analysis
- Share conceptual construction cost estimates
- Gather public input to inform the final Scoping Report
Public feedback received at the meeting will help refine the recommendations before the Final Scoping Report is completed later this spring.

Residents are encouraged to participate and help shape a safer, more walkable Pearl Street.
