Interview with Lauren Starkey, Owner

Sitting for the SATs might not bring the best of memories for most people, but Essex resident Lauren Starkey has established a business helping high school students get ready for the test in just four hours.  Lauren is a business writer by trade who was inspired to start an SAT prep business after finding an unread, dust-covered SAT manual under her daughter’s bed.  She wanted to offer something in between the expensive multi-week SAT prep classes and the massive books (or “prep by the pound” as Lauren calls them) that go unread for most students.

During the SAT Bootcamp workshop, Lauren focuses on both content and strategy.  She works on mind/body approaches to reduce test time stress and help students better concentrate on the questions in front of them.  But the learning does not end in four hours-Lauren encourages all of her students to practice at home and provides a Basic Training Manual with additional resources.

Here is what one mother had to say about the class, “SAT Bootcamp Worked – 4 hours and Brandon had a great improvement in his scores! Lauren gave him some great test taking strategies and made him feel more confident about the exam.  He actually came home saying he enjoyed Bootcamp and it was worth the time!”

The next SAT Bootcamp course will take place at 8 AM on April 6th at Burlington High School.  Spaces are still available!  Register for this course, or learn more about SAT Bootcamp on the web: http://www.satbootcampvt.com/.

Why Essex? “I started by partnering with Essex Parks & Recreation to offer these classes to local students.  I would have never gotten off the ground if they had not been willing to take a chance on me.” –Lauren Starkey
