Interview with Donna Steffen, Owner & Baker

Donna Steffen has been passionate about baking her entire life.  As she got older, she realized that it was now or never for her to follow her dream of opening her own bakery.  A few months later, she was in the process of planning the grand opening for her new confectionary.  I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to experience the brand new Artisan Dessert Co, just a few days before the doors were open to the general public.

Donna’s signature recipe is a chocolate covered cheesecake served on a popsicle stick, which is just about as amazing as it sounds.  She also makes chocolate truffle cakes, cookies, carrot cake, and cupcakes, just to name a few.  The restaurant space has several tables, made from old foot pedal Singer sewing machines, where locals can meet up with friends and enjoy a dessert together.

While the restaurant is only a few weeks old, Artisan Dessert Co. has amassed quite a few five star reviews on Facebook: “Cannolis are incredible! The almond cookies are to die for...and Chocolate PB cupcakes are terrific! Can't go wrong on mostly......everything!!”

The Artisan Dessert Co. is located at 21 Essex Way, in the Essex Experience, and is open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 AM-6 PM.   Learn more about Artisan Dessert Co. on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/artisandessertco/?ref=br_rs or just stop by the next time you have a craving for something sweet.
