How does electricity reach our homes? Where does our water come from? How does the internet connect us all? Vermont author and artist Dan Nott will answer these questions and more while discussing his nonfiction graphic novel Hidden Systems at Brownell Library on Friday, January 30, from 6-7 p.m
The program will explore the fascinating origins of some of the systems we rely on every day: electricity, water, and the internet, including lasting inequities in their design and contemporary challenges they create, like climate change. The talk will also include visual readings from the book, insights from comics history, and tips for readers and aspiring cartoonists interested in the art of visual storytelling.
This Vermont Humanities event is hosted by Brownell Library. It is free and open to all ages. It is also inspired by the 2025 Vermont Reads selection, The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton. Free copies of The Light Pirate will be available to program attendees while supplies last.
