The City Of Essex Junction Invites Residents to a City Celebration

Posted Friday, June 24, 2022

The City of Essex Junction invites all residents to attend a City Celebration on Friday, July 1, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. at 1 Main Street to commemorate the creation of Vermont’s 10th City.

This celebratory event will feature live music with The Rough Suspects and free food for residents from Skreet Dogs, East Coast Ice, and Dizzy Dozen. Beverages will also be available for purchase from Firebird Cafe. A formal recognition ceremony to express gratitude to the people who helped create the City will begin a 5:30 p.m., with a group photo of all in attendance to follow.

In November 2021, the Village of Essex Junction passed a City Charter with 88 percent of community support to separate from the Town of Essex. Bill H. 491, an act relating to the creation of the City of Essex Junction and the adoption of its charter, was then passed in the Vermont Legislature. Gov. Phil Scott signed the bill into law in April 2022.
