The City of Essex Junction Land Development Code (Section 714.C.2) allows temporary election-period signs within the public right-of-way only during the two-week period immediately preceding a local, state or federal election. These signs must be removed within three days after the election.

Outside of this window, signs are not permitted in the public right-of-way, including on grass strips, medians, and other City-owned land adjacent to streets and sidewalks. This applies regardless of the message displayed.

We ask candidates to remove their signs that are within the right-of-way at this time, as it is more than two weeks before the election. The City will remove any remaining signs. Property owners and residents are welcome to display signs on private property in accordance with Section 714's Election Period Sign standards, which allow signs beginning 60 days before an election.

Questions about the City's sign regulations can be directed to the Community Development Department at (802) 878-6944  EXT: 1604
