Agreeably to the provisions of Title 32, Vermont Statutes Annotated, Section 4111, notice is hereby given that the undersigned Assessor within and for the City of Essex Junction has this day completed the abstract of property owners as of the first day of April 2026. The Assessor has this same day lodged the abstract in the office of the clerk for the inspection of taxpayers.
Due to the 2026 reappraisal, all property owners will receive a Change of Assessment Notice.
The Grievance Process:
Formal grievance hearings are available to anyone aggrieved by an Assessor’s action (32 V.S.A. § 4111(g)). If you wish to pursue a grievance, it must be submitted in writing on or before 4:00 PM on July 8, 2026 (14 days from the Change of Assessment notice). Late submissions will not be accepted.

Written grievances may be submitted by mail, email, in person, or via the drop box at 81 Main Street, Essex Junction, VT.
Grievances may be considered based on the written submission and supporting documentation of the property’s fair market value, or through a requested hearing. Submissions must include contact information to schedule a hearing. If contact information is not provided, the hearing will not be scheduled. If requesting a hearing, the Assessor will notify the owner of the hearing date and time. Only property owners of records as of April 1 may file a grievance, though a representative may be authorized with a signed statement before the hearing.
Scheduled hearings begin July 9, 2026, and will be held in person or by phone at the Assessing Department, Town of Essex Offices, 81 Main Street (second floor). At the close of scheduled grievance hearings, the Assessor shall make such corrections in the abstract as were determined upon hearing or otherwise. Unless cause to the contrary is shown, the contents of said abstract will, for the tax year 2026, become the grand list of the City of Essex Junction of each taxpayer named therein.
