The City of Essex Junction is proud to announce the appointment of Mark Brislin as the new director of the Essex Junction Recreation and Parks (EJRP) department. Mark brings more than 25 years of experience in municipal parks and recreation, including nine years as Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Claremont, New Hampshire. He first joined the Essex Junction Recreation and Parks Department in 2007, serving as Assistant Director through 2013, and returned to Essex Junction after his time in Claremont to once again support the department as the Assistant Director of Recreation.
Throughout his career, Mark has built a strong reputation for thoughtful leadership, sound budget management, and meaningful community programming. He has led teams of full‑time, part‑time, and seasonal staff, and managed a wide range of facilities and programs, including aquatics and large multi‑use recreation spaces. A Certified Park and Recreation Professional, Mark is known for his collaborative approach, fiscal responsibility, and genuine commitment to serving the community and enhancing the quality of life.
“I’m honored to serve as the Director of Recreation and Parks for the City of Essex Junction,” said Mark Brislin. “Having been part of this department and community for many years, I’m excited to continue building on the strong foundation already in place. Parks and recreation play an important role in bringing people together, and I look forward to working with our staff and community partners to continue providing meaningful programs, events, and public spaces for residents of all ages.”
Mark will succeed Brad Luck, who has served as EJRP Director since 2007 and is moving on to pursue a new opportunity in the private sector. Under Brad’s guidance, EJRP has developed a range of beloved programs for local families, including a highly sought-after preschool, licensed afterschool childcare, vacation camps, and summer day camps, serving families in Essex Junction, Essex Town, and Westford. Brad’s legacy is evident in the vibrant community spaces he helped create and enhance, such as Maple Street Park, the Senior Center, the dog park, and the community gardens. Brad was also a key contributor to the establishment of the City itself.
“On behalf of the City of Essex Junction, I want to extend our sincere thanks to Brad Luck for his outstanding leadership and dedication to our community over the past 19 years,” said City Manager Regina Mahony. “Brad’s vision and commitment have made EJRP a cornerstone of Essex Junction, providing opportunities for connection, recreation, and growth for residents of all ages. As we welcome Mark Brislin into his new role as Director, I am confident that his passion, experience, and understanding of our community will ensure that EJRP continues to deliver the exceptional programs and services our community has come to depend on. With this leadership transition, we look forward to continued growth, innovation, and lasting positive impact in Essex Junction's parks and recreation offerings.”
