Main Street Sidewalk Replacement Project
Today the Contractor removed existing sidewalk from in front of 54 Main Street and 56 Main Street. They also installed underdrain to the driveway for 54 Main Street.
Today the driveway to 54 Main Street was closed. Please use the secondary entrance off Grove Street for access to your residence.
Today the Contractor broke an unmarked, previously abandoned gas service under the driveway for 54 Main Street. Essex Junction Fire Department was on site to control traffic and ensure the site was safe during the gas break. Vermont Gas temporarily capped the gas service for the night, and will be on site to properly abandon the service line in front of 49 Main Street tomorrow.
Tomorrow the Contractor will continue to install underdrain. They will also install gravel subbase and sidewalk forms through the driveway for 54 Main Street.
Now that the Contractor has installed seed and hay mulching, we ask residents to please water their lawns to help the grass grow.
Tomorrow, Main Street may be reduced to alternating one-way traffic while equipment or material is being delivered or removed from the site. Traffic control will be in place to help direct traffic.
The contractor provides the best prediction of their next work cycle. Please keep in mind that construction is a fluid process, and sometimes plans must change based on weather, conditions found in the field, or other factors.
