On Tuesday, May 26, the contractor will begin work on the Railroad Avenue Waterline Extension project. They plan to start the project on Tuesday by connecting to the existing waterline along Central Street in the Central Street and Railroad Avenue intersection, which will require excavation in the roadway along Central Street. Central Street will be closed to northbound traffic from Lincoln Street to Grove Street. One-way traffic will be allowed on Central Street from Grove Street to Lincoln Street. Railroad Avenue will be closed between Central Street and Lincoln Place. Traffic Control will be in place to help direct traffic.
Also on Tuesday, 05/26/2026, there will be a water service shutdown between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. The water service shutdown will affect Central Beverage, Mclure Moving and Storage, the Essex Junction Bus Station, and the Essex Junction Amtrak Station. The water service shutdown will also affect residences 12 to 32 Central Street, 6 Grove Street, and 8 Grove Street, at a minimum. The Contractor will work to minimize the duration of the water service interruption as much as possible.
We thank you for your patience as we work to complete this work.
The contractor provides the best prediction of their next work cycle. Please keep in mind that construction is a fluid process, and sometimes plans must change based on weather, conditions found in the field, or other factors.
Throughout construction, we will send daily emails about progress and the anticipated schedule, as they may relate to access and disruptions to adjacent properties.
