The recent, devastating fires in Maui and Los Angeles are but the tip of a fiery iceberg modern humans have created called climate change. How are we to respond to such events, emotionally and rationally? Drawing on themes from his new book Following Nature’s Lead: Ancient Ways of Living in a Dying World (Princeton University Press, 2025), Prof. Usher will speak on what wisdom the Buddha (ca. 480-400 BCE), the Stoic philosopher Seneca (ca. 4 BCE-65 CE), and the naturalist/curmudgeon Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) have to impart on the topic of climate trauma.
