Property Taxes

Important Information Regarding Your 2023-2024 Property Tax Bill

The mailed property tax bill is your first City issued tax bill for City tax rates only. The tax rates on your bill are:

General – this is the property tax used to fund general operations of the City of Essex Junction, and

Economic Development – this is a 1 cent tax approved by the voters at the annual meeting in 2021 for the purpose of funding capital improvement projects related to economic development within the City of Essex Junction.

Please note that your SPAN number has changed!

As a result of separation from the Town of Essex, the State has assigned Essex Junction a new Town Code of 208, which is the first three digits of your SPAN. This information is used when filing your annual tax return, so please be sure to update your tax preparation software or provide a copy of your tax bill to your tax preparer. The school code of 066 remains the same.

Delinquent Taxes

If you owe taxes for prior years, be advised that amounts due related to the 2022 tax year (billed in August 2022) are payable to the City of Essex Junction. If you owe taxes for years prior to 2022, those amounts are payable to the Town of Essex, as they were billed when the Town and Village were combined. Delinquent tax payments must be made to the respective Clerk’s office where the balance is due (Town or City).
