City Road Construction

Crescent Connector Phase 2 Project

The second phase of the Crescent Connector Project will consist of constructing a new roadway connecting Park Street to Maple Street and a full-depth reconstruction of Railroad Street. Work will begin on May 15, 2023, with the preparation of the site with construction limit fencing and signage. Construction will begin in earnest on May 22, 2023, on Park Street. This project will impact Park Street, Main Street, and Maple Street at various times throughout the course of the construction. Moveable message boards will warn of street and lane closures. It will also include the installation of new traffic signals at Park Street and Maple Street. The project will include bike lanes and new sidewalks, and the entire route will have new street lights installed. Phase 1 of this project, which focused on railroad crossing improvements within the City core in 2022, is now complete. Both phases of this project have been in development for the past 12 years, and the construction of Phase 2 will complete this long-term project. The estimated completion date of this project is November 2024.

Corrective Action Plan Amendment Crescent Connector Roadway

September 18, 2024 Daily Update

Thursday the contractor will continue installing safety fence between the new roadway and the railroad tracks. This new fence will run from Park Street to Maple and from Maple to Main Street. The contractor will continue to do clean-up and project close out items.

The traffic signals on Park Street and Maple Street are now fully functional, including the pedestrian crossing buttons. All the new streetlights should be lit tonight.

Please remember that there is now a single lane westbound on Maple for traffic going to Pearl Street, Lincoln Street, and Main Street. Traffic wishing to go from Maple to Park Street must use the new roadway by turning left off Maple onto the new road.  Left turns from Maple to Park at the Five Corners are no longer permitted.  Moveable message boards on Maple Street are highlighting this change in the traffic pattern.

Some drivers are still turning left from Maple onto Park Street at the Five Corners intersection. When the next signal changes are made at the Five Corners intersection, there will be oncoming traffic opposing this turn, so please remind your friends and family members to no longer turn left from Maple to Park Street.

We appreciate your continued patience as we get even closer to the completion of this project.

Main Street Waterline Replacement Project

The Main Street Waterline Replacement Project will begin July 10, 2023 and will impact Main Street with one-lane alternating traffic. It will include the replacement of the existing municipal waterline along the east side of Main Street from north of the Indian Brook bridge crossing to the existing water tank connection adjacent to the booster pump station located along Turnberry Ridge. The estimated completion date of this project is November 2023.

June 14, 2024 Daily Update

Today the Contractor topsoiled the lawn area of the Community Health Center and the staging parking lot. They also hydroseeded all residences along Main Street.

On Monday the Contractor will fill in two holes from exploratory excavations in the turn around just north of Athens Drive. They will also begin removing material from the field between Turnberry Ridge and Athens Drive.

Watering Reminder:  For those residents with lawns recently restored and seeded/mulched, please help do your part by watering the recently seeded areas on your property. This is especially important with the hot temperatures coming in next week. Thank you in advance.

The contractor provides their best prediction of their next work cycle, and we will be sending these emails daily during the week to keep you informed of the construction progress. Please keep in mind that construction is a fluid process and sometimes plans must change based upon weather or conditions found in the field.
