SUMMARY:Vermont Astronomical Society at Brownell Library
DESCRIPTION:Asteroids and Meteors By Steve Grimsley - In-person and via Zo
om. In-person and via Zoom - Asteroids and meteors are the leftovers of no
n gaseous material from the formation of the solar system.  They are foun
d throughout the solar system but are concentrated in the main asteroid be
lt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.  Much of what we know about th
e early history of the solar system comes from the study of these rocky re
mnants that made their way to Earth. There are three main categories of me
teors\, stony\, stony iron\, and iron.  These types mostly are based on w
here\, in an internally melted and gravity segregated asteroid\, they were
formed. Learn more in this session! Following the main presentation the r
ecurring monthly presentations will include Constellation of the Month by
 Terri Zittritsch.
