Planning & Zoning

Five citizens from the Village of Essex Junction appointed by the Board of Trustees make up the Zoning Board of Adjustment. They meet at 7:00 PM on the third Tuesday of each month, if there are applications to review. The main responsibility of the Zoning Board is to review conditional use applications to determine if they conform to certain elements of the Village Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan. The Board is also responsible for considering, on an individual basis, whether variances to the zoning regulations should be allowed. The Board also hears appeals of the Zoning Administrator’s decisions. Questions regarding any zoning issue may be directed to the Development Department at 878-6950 or contact us via the form on the Contact Us page.

The seven members of the Planning Commission are appointed by the Village Trustees. The commission meets on the first and third Thursday of each month to review development applications, update the Land Development Code and assist in the update of the Comprehensive Plan.
