At their 11/8/11 meeting, the Trustees adopted a resolution to join the National Flood Insurance Program. Maps effective in July 2011 were used to determine that Essex Junction has a total of eight sites impacted by flood hazard areas, including two commercial sites, two health care sites, one industrial site and three multi-family sites. In order to get federal flood insurance, which is much less expensive than private coverage, a municipality must be in the NFIP. Further, FDIC loans cannot be made for a structure in a flood hazard area unless the municipality is in the NFIP. A municipality must adopt flood hazard regulations and Essex Junction's Land Development Code regulations have been updated accordingly.
The Village was officially enrolled in the NFIP on April 12, 2012:

There will be a presentation at the Trustees' 5/22/12 meeting on the final alignment of the Crescent Connector and Railroad Street Alternatives.
The regional transportation planning agency (CCMPO) which approves all major road projects in Chittenden County released its “scoping study” for the Crescent Connector, the proposed bypass around Five Corners. The study shows where the new road will go and gives traffic projections for Five Corners with and without the road. People interested in community development may find the study helpful in understanding all the details that must be considered when planning road and infrastructure projects. Besides traffic flow, the study looks at historic buildings that might be affected by the project, environmental impacts, railroad right of ways, and hazardous waste sites.
