Dog Licenses

Residents may register dogs in person during normal business hours at the City Office, 2 Lincoln Street. All dogs over 6 months of age are required to be registered with the City Clerk by April 1st of each year per state statute.

New Dogs:

• Register a new dog by mailing or emailing a copy of a current rabies certificate, owner’s name, address and contact information, dog breed, color, age, size (small, medium, or large), and date of spay or neuter.
• Payments may be made by check (mail or drop box). You can also make payments online (convenience fees will be charged)
• License and tag(s) will be mailed to you.

Renewals:

• Renew by mail or email by sending the fee and current rabies certificate.
• Payments may be made by check (mail or drop box). You can also make payments online (convenience fees will be charged)
• License and tag(s) will be mailed to you.

Cost of Dog Licenses:

If you have moved out of Essex Junction or no longer have your dog, please call the Clerk’s office at 802-878-6944 x 1623 or email clerks@essexjunction.org.

There are no licensing requirements for cats or other animals. If you have an animal-related problem, call animal control at 802-878-1333
