Community Development
The Essex Junction government encourages community development through its support of the Essex Teen Center, the Essex Junction Senior Center, and the Brownell Library. Each of these institutions provides enrichment and social engagement opportunities of citizens of all ages. The Essex Junction Board of Trustees also has a longstanding tradition of supporting citizen-led and non-profit efforts for improving the quality of life of disadvantaged groups.
The Essex Teen Center
The Essex Teen Center is located in the second floor of Lincoln Hall, which houses the Village's administrative offices. The teen center operates in partnership with Essex CHIPS (Community Helping Inspire People to Succeed), and provides a meeting space for community youth to engage in youth programming, parent education, substance abuse prevention campaigns, and direct local healthy living initiatives.
The Essex Junction Senior Center
The Essex Junction Senior Center is located in the white annex building adjoining the Village administrative offices at Lincoln Hall. It provides a casual space for seniors to meet, socialize, and, if they choose, engage in a variety of relaxed activities The center also offers a schedule of organized activities. The Brownell Library
In addition to providing the full range of traditional library services, the Brownell Library actively engages in community development efforts through its many cultural and educational programs. The library also provides Internet and email access for patrons, and encourages citizen empowerment by offering a public meeting space, the Kolvoord Room, for groups involved in political, social, spiritual, and cultural issues.
