Waste Water Treatment

Waste Water Treatment Upgrade Summary

The Essex Junction wastewater facility is owned by the Village of Essex Junction. The original plant was built in 1965 and has undergone several modifications since then to meet the needs of the three communities it serves. Flows to the plant are received from the Village, the Town of Essex, and the Town of Williston. Williston and Essex flows are managed under a contract known as the tri-town Agreement.

Much of the process equipment at the wastewater facility is beyond design life and replacement parts are not readily available. Without an upgrade funded through a bond issue, major maintenance projects will be necessary to meet state and federal permit requirements. Eventually an upgrade will be unavoidable, but at much higher costs.
